Why people prefer use Baidu Ditu over Google Map

China is the only land on the planet that the Google Empire has not yet conquered and take control of its burgeoning hundreds of millions of internet users. The map service Google provided has been popular around the world over decades, however, it is simpler just not as good as the Baidu in China. here is the comparison of the maps around the airport in Shanghai.

Not a morgan stanleyer any more

I have been receiving some emails asking about the IT division of Morgan Stanley in Shanghai over the last a few weeks. First of all, I would like to clarify that I am not a Morgan Stanley employee any more and I can’t disclose any confidential information to the interviewees.

Morgan Stanley is a great company with robust technology infrastructures. I think this is quite rare for a financial company. People are smart and friendly there and it’s definitely a good company to work for! However, it is not suitable for everybody.

Shanghai and Tokyo

Over the last 2 months, many things happened during my return stay at Shanghai…

First, I began to think whether Shanghai is the right city for me. Shanghai is definitely very different from Tokyo. In terms of familiarity, Shanghai is as alien as Tokyo to me. The obvious difference between the two cities is that people in one city speak Japanese and the other speaks Chinese.

Besides, I think that most nice facilities in Shanghai that cannot be found easily in other cities in China is only for the rich people or expatriates here. Like many shopping malls, bars and apartments the price of which is prohibitive for the locals.

Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum

Yesterday, I took Jessica to the newly opened Shanghai Madame Tussaud’s. Madame Tussaud’s famous waxwork exhibition was originally established in Paris in 1770 and moved to London in 1802. The Shanghai branch is located on the 10th floor of the New World Department Store on Nanjing Road. It is not a surprise that the place was very crowded. After waiting in a line for a ticket for about half an hour, finally we got into this wax museum.

However, the place was amazing. I have never been to such a wax museum before. The 75 wax figures initially installed were so vivid, and more to be added according to the guide book. I took pictures with “people” I would not be able to meet in my lifetime, I think.

The Adult ticket cost 125 RMB (15.6 USD).

Miscellanea of The Weekend

It’s a wonderful weekend. I just arranged with Hurrican and his gf to play badminton together at first. I got up very late (sometimes I am very lazy especially at weekend) and when I got Xujiahui, it was almost 11:00 am. The first thing I should do is to buy a badminton racket. But After searching for a cheap rackets around Xujiahui together with my brother, I can’t find a little cheap one. Most of the badminton rackets in Xujiahui is above 300rmb and some up to 1000rmb. Finally, I had to give up and said goodbye to Hurrican.

First home in Shanghai

I rented a flat with another two roommates who works in the same area at Shenbei Road in Minhang District. It is a small road which is located in southern Shanghai and the house is very far away from the centre of the city. It takes about 45 minutes for me to get to the People Square by subway from my flat. Fortunately, the Line 5 subway is not far away from my house.

The house is near my workplace and I believe it is a good daily exercise for me to walk to the office by foot.

Why So Many People come to Shanghai

I left my office with one of my colleagues very late yesterday. It was valentine’s day, of course, we talked about the feast day at first. Then, our topic changed to his high school life. He is from Shandong Province where high school students’ Gaokao(National College Entrance Examinations) mark is very high and now he have graduated from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He said he was No.1 when he was high school student, but when he came to the university, he found that so many talent students in the university.
